SuperKIDS!
Once again ... it has been a long long while since i entered a post... =x
Well, I worked at Teo Keng Siang Law Firm for like about 1 month and a half or so... was great... It was a all new different kind of experience... I mean working at like HSBC and then working at a pte ltd... REALLY BIG DIFF!
The amount of freedom you have at pte ltd, A LOT! lets talk about the minor ones like, you can use msn, at HSBC we were only allowed to use Internal messenger, which means, only able to communicate within the cooperate. Email is no longer restricted to within the company, this mainly due to the fact that I was like an intern at HSBC la if not can email to other people and stuff.
The environment wise... eh, same la... female working environment... =x haha... so yeah... fun la...
Then, I decided yes, it is time to stop all work and start playing before enter N.S so, i quit the job as at 28th May, HOWEVER, can't be everyday do nothing at home, just nice right, Adam Khoo Learning Technology Group called and asked if i did be interested in doing some coaching, YES! ENRICHING JOB!
So there I was, helping CHIJ Kellock Primary school students to learn how to study. YES, teaching them how to study, which I seldom do. HAHA, I can imagine the expressions on those who know me too well. WTH! Seb... teaching how to study.
Ok, the fact is I do study! Just not as consistent as the top scorers that's all. I mean how the hell you expect me to pass without studying, but yeah, 1 week before exams, that's just me.=)
Well back to the topic, the learning experience I gained from this school was just amazing! I really had great fun too, the kids are just adorable, OK I am not pedophiles and I don't feel gay for saying kids are adorable.
I was really surprised that the students were all very spontaneous, really. It trigered my memories on how we actually reacted during our superteens workshop at Xinmin Sec. World of difference. The coaches were all commenting that it was what we call school culture. CHIJ students, excellent students. You can really see the difference in the response and the eagerness to learn.
I had gone through the SuperTeens workshop, the syllabus was the same. Yes, I still remember those techniques I was thought, no seriously, I remember. But being a coach this time was different. How different?
There was this challenge we went though for superKIDS that was the 30 words challenge, under 20secs... they we actually told that they will be tested on the last day. When the last day came, only those who can do below 20 get to get into the "golden room"( which was the original venue la, the ava room) half of them got in, the rest stayed outside, those who were in the room were given a chance to sit infront.. those who did accomplish it got in to the room after that. Then, the instructor asked who actually practice it more X times, sure enough only those infront raised their hands. This simple exercise showed that only those who actually do will be given options of their choice, if you do not put in effort and do not make it through, you will not even be given choices!
Yes, this simple thing made me realise alot of stuff. I mean i have been through my sec school days and poly life, I totally understand the harsh reality. When I was taking my O lvls, I went through superteens, and knew clearly what i wanted, but being me i decided the simplest way to make it to my goal, a way which i can play as much yet enter a good course. =) What was it I did? instead of the give my 100% I decided that L1 R5... hmmm no need I going poly, so no need to freaking do so well in all the subs ma. I threw away science, and focused on the other 5, while busy with my other stuff like, Chinese chess, Bowling, Choir, blah blah blah, WAHAHA sure enough, the work shop helped me, I got to a business course, well not accounting course, but yes still a business course, and it was one of my choices. (if you aim to pass you usually just pass or get slightly lower, but if you aim to do your best, you will do well)
Then, over the years, everything... forgotten... LOL... poly life was atrocious, Yes true enough I passed all my subs, but deep in me I know I could have done better la... wth... only 2 pathetic A's zzz. The best has yet to come, now really lol, can't really get to anywhere la... guess what i actually wanted... SMU, erm, kidding right, as if i could even get an interview loh.
But yeah, was a really good self reflection for me.
Oh oh, i got to say, it was really shiok like having this supreme authority over these kids. I mean like when the kids like having little whisper sessions during the workshop, you just suddenly look at then, the immediate response to stop chatting was cool! LOL! Eh, you go try doing that to sec schs, i think they freaking can't be bothered loh. =x. wahaha, it was not abuse of authority, it was just exercising my rights? no maybe just getting the thrill of something which i always wanted to do. Really, cause i was always the one being punished, given the stare for talking and stuff HAHA
Lastly,
I thank the coaches and CHIJ Kellock for such a memorable 3 days!
The content was written after clubbing... LOL... so... erm... dun ask me what I am typing, how bad the grammer is. It is now 7.25a.m
Signs off =)
